Gulbenkian is a key part of the University of Kent’s Arts Centre offering innovative, engaging and high quality arts activity for and with the public, staff and students. It provides a key role in delivering the University of Kent’s commitment to Public Engagement proving an interface between the University and the local and wider community Gulbenkian has a particular commitment to the creative empowerment of children and young people and talent development.
When Gulbenkian was opened in 1969 it used the slogan On Campus –But Not Off Limits! It was intended as A Centre for the Arts for Canterbury and All of Kent and this holds true today. The University is proud of Gulbenkian as it provides a vital gateway to the campus as well as a rich programme of cultural activity for thousands of all ages.
Gulbenkian will work with a range of creative partners to become a leading 21st Century international arts centre offering an engaging, innovative and high quality arts programme. We will act as a catalyst developing and curating ideas, spaces and emerging talent. The empowerment of children and young people will be at the core of our activity
